Accompanying this promotional video of the soon to be launched (& pretty fabulous) Regent Seven Seas Spendor, is the following:
In March 2018, we cut the first steel plate for Seven Seas Splendor™ at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. This past February, we celebrated another major milestone during her float-out ceremony. And, in just nine months, we will launch our latest masterpiece — a perfection in luxury.
Well nine months will be here shortly (sailing February 6, 2020 from Barcelona to Miami) and Regent Seven Seas Cruises has announced the ship’s Godmother. What do you say? Is fairy dust involved? No, but it’s a maritime tradition going back as long as I’ve been around the business.
And it’s Christie Brinkley, supermodel of yore. Regent says “She’s a world-famous supermodel, glamorous actress, proud mother and successful entrepreneur – and now will be recognized as Godmother to the cruise ship that perfects luxury.”
Back when I worked for Seabourn, Seabourn Pride’s godmother was Shirley Temple Black. Then it got a little less glitzy with the owner’s mother and wife named for the next 2 ships. Check out the Seabourn history here, in this Cruise Critic post.
But other ships over the years have bestowed the honor of either Godmother or official christener on these celebrities, according to an article I found online in The Buffalo News: Margaret THATCHER (Regal Princess), Audrey HEPBURN (Star Princess), Princess DIANA (Royal Princess), Princess CAROLINE (Sea Goddess 2) and a host of others. including a couple of queens.
